SUBSTACK | The Journey Making The Trailer

The process of creating and getting a trailer for our film out into the world has been an unexpected journey—equal parts creativity, anxiety, and ultimately, growth that has been central to every part of the journey making our third feature film You, Me & Her. It’s taught me lessons about trusting myself, leaning into collaboration, and rethinking long-held notions about the film industry. But reality, especially in the indie world, doesn’t always align with those ideals.

The festival where we premiered asked for a trailer. It was a chance to get more eyes on the film ahead of the premiere—hard to argue against that. Still, I wrestled with doubts. The logic behind the traditional industry strategy makes sense: if you release material too soon, you risk squandering your momentum. But if you don’t release material how will anyone find your film?
